Bon Voyage

Breaking Bread

For our last Monday Night Dining experience, before Steph whisks off to Europe, we decided to keep it simple….  Then again what fun is that? So with just our trio for dinner, we could discuss the upcoming trip. We have had an octopus in the freezer just waiting for the right occasion to make an appearance and this was his chance.  Having never cooked octopus before, we consulted some experts. One of the most important tricks we learned was, after braising the octopus, to let it cool in the braising liquid, so it does not toughen up. We did taste test a bit on Sunday just to be sure. So for our first course Grilled Octopus and peaches, with arugula and Balsamic Reduction.

Turns out we love Octopus!!!  For the main we grilled everything.  Fanned potatoes with fresh herbs, Steaks and grilled Ratatouille, done in the BBQ wok.

Unfortunately Steph could not stay for dessert.  After seeing her off to the airport, we settled in for a return of Crepas de Cajeta. Crepes in the freezer and leftover sauce and nuts, make for a quick and delicious dessert. And of course we flambeed!

The next time our trio will be dining together will be in Worcester, UK. It’s very exciting to be going to the Three Choirs Festival with friends. We have rented Diglis Lock Cottage , which was the old lock masters cottage, on an island in the Severn River. They tell us we even have a boat.

On a side note, Our little blog received a hit from Brasil during the World Cup!  We have also had hits from the US, Japan, the Philipines and Ecuador. If you hear of a trend of crepes with Cajeta in Ecuador, we are taking full credit.
