2 does not a trio make

Breaking Bread

This week presented us with a conundrum…  Steph would not be joining us for Monday night dining.  I know, I was as shocked as you….  The question in everyone’s mind is “does MondayNightDining exist, if Steph is not here?”  We decided to soldier on and dine anyway. And since our friend Luke was over, we already had a guest.  The question then became “what do you feed an Aussie on Monday?

We had some leftover “spag bol” (spaghetti bolognese) in the fridge, so decided to make a lasagna, for the appetizer.

With tomato sauce made from the garden, and fresh pasta, this was quite a treat. I just wish we had made more, to freeze for later.

For the main, we served what we think is an Aussie favorite, Lamb chops.  This was served with celeriac puree, sautéed swiss chard and red wine sauce.

The lamb was seared on the stove top, then finished in the oven to a lovely medium rare. The flavours on this plate complimented each other really well. This was hearty fare, to get me through rehearsal.

For dessert, we served a new take on a favorite of ours. crème a la Coeur, with blackberry sauce.

I loved the freshness of the blackberries, both whole and in the sauce. This was a nice light end to our meal.  We had a chance to talk about Luke’s future plans, and maybe just “dropped that kitty” a little bit. It’s exciting to have someone around who is new to Canada, and excited to be here. It helps renew our love for our own country, seeing it through someone else’s eyes.
